I think last night I came to terms with something. I try really hard cooking and probably over 50% of the time, it just doesn't come out that well. I think I realised I am not a cook, I am a baker. I love baking and I just don't do it that much anymore. Mainly because of my waistline, but also because you can't swing a cat in my kitchen. I need to bake more, I enjoy it. I just need to give away my treats....
So join me as I explore my own long road, from Maine to Antarctica to the UK, and most things inbetween. This blog is my ramblings from the daily life of a deep-sea biologist living as an alien in the USA, and a way to keep my family and friends in the loop that is my life without filling up everyones mailbox!

Welsh Cakes...
Erm, yes well. I'd already eaten a few before I remembered to take a photo....so this is what you get.....:0) Last night I decided to make some welsh cakes for my neighbors (who are welsh and french), as they just had their first baby yesterday! I haven't made these in a long while (I LOVE them!) and I had to find an american version to go with the ingredients I can get here, and then adjust it to what I had in my cupboard - but i've posted what I used over on my Craft Site - and it's pretty authentic, and definitely tasty with butter and sugar....:0)

ditto. in our house, mike is the cook (an amazing one) and i am the baker.
Baking is my favorite! I'd eat cupcakes for dinner if I could, but alas, my waistline wouldn't appreciate it either... I've found that if I follow recipes to the T and read comments from others who've made something, I do much better. I'd be happy to put you in touch with the coordinator for the cooking classes I took in Hawaii-- they really improved what I used to put together in the kitchen!!
